Faithful Youth Challenger's Ministry

 

The Faithful Youth Challengers (FYC) Department is at the core of the church's youth movement. A prototype of the Denver youth ministry, it has been built on the pillars of creativity, integrity, courage and vibrancy, which have conditioned the psyche of the more than 1000 members it represents. Back in the 1970s when the department was formed, it heralded a revolutionary approach in many aspects of Church Ministry, breaking new grounds for innovative programmes that would enhance the image and mission of the conference.

Today, at the dawn of the twenty-first century, the FYC Department is still a pacesetter, championing the cause of young people, bridging generation gaps and providing social and spiritual enrichment.

One of the most striking features of this dynamic department is its role in equipping young men and women for some of the noblest positions in the church. The present conference chairman was a former director of the FYC Department. The immediate past Vice Chairman and a few of the members of the Executive Board were also instrumental in advancing the work of the Department. Further a field, dozens of men and women who were discipled in the FYC Department in Jamaica have pioneered similar youth movements in various parts of North America and the Caribbean. Of particular significance, are the collective feats, which have been achieved by both the Denver and Jamaican FYC Departments, through exchange programmes and joint initiatives.

Every year, the FYC Department inspires and excites its members through a range of programmes which include:

 National Quiz Competition: a year-long activity that provides mental stimulation to participants through ongoing contests mainly about Bible knowledge.

 Youth Congress: a truly refreshing four-day conference, in which hundreds of young people meet to worship, plan and discuss youth related issues. One of the highlights of this event is the Awards Ceremony, which honours Faithful Youth Challengers and other members who have rendered outstanding service to the Department.

 Youth Camp: undoubtedly one of the most-anticipated times of the Summer holidays, when the youth and young at heart get down and have a blast in adrenalin pumping, fun-filled activities. Did we mention that the camp's devotions are the best?

 Choir Ministry: a delightful opportunity for motivation and exposure awaits young people of all ages, who are desirous of sharing their musical talents with the Challengers Mass Choir.

 Insight of Glory Concert: an extravagant display of the musical talents of young people in an evening of sheer praise and celebration.

Youth Evangelism Month (October): a time specially set aside for the preaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ and the discipling of young converts, through crusades across Jamaica.

These programmes are not an end in themselves as the department is always evolving and responding to new realities and demands.
